TOE Unit 5 Part 3 · Cafe Maria
Week 3 · Read and Think · meaning before text
- TALK
- SONG
- SCENE
- RETRIEVAL
- WRITE
- TRANSFER
- COMMUNICATION
- EXIT
Teacher preparation
Repeat this Part throughout Week 3. Part 3 is Cafe Maria, Read and Think, printed pages 66–67. It is Fumiya’s blog, not the Part 2 question-and-answer dialogue.
- Meaning first: show the situation, invite a response, then reveal and model. Use ten short reading chunks. Join the two “but” contrasts after practising the chunks.
- The two “but” contrasts use short phrase chunks. Keep the food description together as one complete sentence. Do not add speaker-name captions or an isolated Yes slide.
- Use SCENE → RETRIEVAL → WRITE with the same pictures. In WRITE, children use notebooks; say the chunk before writing.
- TRANSFER uses dummy friends and previously introduced words (rugby, soccer, play, like, Hawaii). Use the does/does not pattern after it has been taught in SCENE. Question pictures show a neutral conversation, never the answer.
- For communication, use the Week 3 classroom phrases: readiness, taking turns, asking for help and encouragement. One partner speaks while the other checks.
Before classroom release, listen to the model chunks and song. Decoding and automated alignment are checked; independent listening review is still pending. The supplied song is an existing generated song, separate from the recorded sentence models.
Source mapping
The supplied Unit5 PDF has printed 66 on PDF page 8 and printed 67 on PDF page 7. Existing toe-plan/run.html Week 3 maps Part 3 to this Read and Think section. The ten short chunks preserve the 72-word passage in order. Illustrations are new supporting visuals; they are not original textbook scene files.
