MUST READ What we will not let pass/ 毎回かならず読む
Children have been using the iPads to watch YouTube during the lesson, and tapping ⭕ without saying anything to farm points instead of practising. This has been reported to the school. 授業中にiPadで YouTube を見る、 何も言わずに ⭕を押してポイントを稼ぐ — こういう行為が報告されています
The school treats this as a serious problem. Watching every student is part of the teacher’s job. The most common cause is simple: the iPads went out too early. 学校はこれを大きな問題と考えています。 全員を見ておくことまでが、先生の仕事です。 原因の多くは単純で、iPadを渡すのが早すぎることです
Watch for this / 見のがさない
  • An iPad showing anything that is not the lesson 授業以外の画面が出ている
  • Tapping ⭕ without speaking — farming points 言わずに⭕を押している(ポイント稼ぎ)
  • Whispering with a friend instead of listening 友だちとこそこそ話して、話を聞いていない
  • Going to the toilet again and again 何度もトイレに行く
Children do these things out of your line of sight. If you see off-task behaviour, stop it calmly and immediately. Keep moving around the room — be beside every desk at some point in the lesson. 子どもは先生の見えないところでやります。 見つけたら、落ち着いて、その場で止める。 教室を歩き続ける— 授業中にどの机の横にも一度は立つ
What you do — every teacher, the same way / どの先生も同じやり方で
  1. Stop it there and then — calmly. Name the child once, then say what you want: Pencils down. Look at me. English only, please. Do not let it pass. その場で、落ち着いて止める。名前を1回呼んで、 してほしいことを言う。見逃さない
  2. If it happens again, stop the lesson. Do not teach around it. 繰り返されたら、授業を一旦止める。やりすごして進めない
  3. Walk the child up to the School Manager on the 4th floor and explain what happened — do not just leave the child there and come back. The manager settles the child down. その子を4階のスクールマネージャーのところへ連れて行き、 何があったかを説明する — 子どもを置いて戻るだけにしない。 マネージャーがクールダウンさせる
  4. Say clearly that you are asking the manager to take it from here — the follow-up, including speaking to the parents. You do not handle it alone. 「今後の対応をお願いしたい」とはっきり伝える — 保護者への連絡を含めて。先生ひとりで抱えない
  5. Write it in the feedback at the bottom of this page — every time. The name, and what happened. このページの下のフィードバックに必ず書く。名前と、何があったか
This is not optional, and it is not a matter of personal style. The standard is the same in every class. It does not change with who is teaching. Children will test it. Expect to stop the same behaviour two or three times before it stops for good — that is normal, and it does not mean it is not working. Keep doing it. Every teacher, every time. これは任意ではなく、先生の好みでもありません。 どのクラスでも基準は同じです。先生によって変わりません。 子どもは必ず試します。同じ行動を2〜3回止めることになりますが、それがふつうです。 効いていないわけではありません。 やり続けてください。どの先生も、毎回
GUIDE Before you start — read this every time▾
Why we teach it this way. The children learn to speak by taking correct English in through their ears and saying it straight back — not by understanding rules. That is why you fix the sound and never explain the grammar. A child who can say it in one second has it. A child who can explain it does not. なぜこのやり方なのか。子どもは、正しい英文を音で入れて、そのまま言い返すことで 話せるようになります。ルールを理解して話せるようになるのではありません。 だから音を直し、文法は説明しないのです。1秒で言える子はできている。説明できる子は、まだできていません
The lesson is in English. You stay in English. 授業は英語です。先生も英語のままでいます
This lesson is English only. Do not use Japanese in the room — not even when a child looks lost, and not to be kind. There is no Japanese teacher in a CLIL class, and there does not need to be. No school abroad would switch to Japanese for our children. We build that same room here, on purpose. この授業は英語だけです。授業中に日本語を使いません — 子どもが困っていても、親切心でもです。 CLILのクラスに日本人の先生はいませんし、いる必要もありません。 海外の学校が、うちの子のために日本語に切り替えてくれることはありません。 同じ状況を、この教室に意図してつくります
  • Not understanding is not a failure. It is the lesson. A child who is lost has a sentence for it — I don't understand. One more time, please. Slowly, please. Give them the chance to use it. 分からないのは失敗ではなく、それが授業です。 困った子には、そのための文があります。使う機会をあげてください
  • When they do not understand, do not translate — do these instead: say it again more slowly · use fewer words · show it · point at it · act it out. 分からないとき、訳さない。 ゆっくり言い直す・語を減らす・見せる・指さす・やってみせる
  • If a child speaks to you in Japanese, answer in English. Point at the sentence they should have used. 子どもが日本語で話しかけてきても、英語で返します。 使うべき文を指さしてあげる
Remember who is sitting in front of you 目の前にいる子が、どんな状態で来ているか
These children are already tired when they walk in. They have done a full day at school, and this is an evening lesson. Their energy is low before you have said a word. They are not lazy. They are not being difficult. This is simply the condition they arrive in, and the lesson has to be built for it. 子どもたちは、来た時点ですでに疲れています。学校で丸一日すごしたあとの、夕方の授業です。 先生が一言も発する前から、体力は落ちています。 やる気がないのでも、反抗しているのでもありません。そういう状態で来るのが前提で、 授業のほうをそれに合わせて作ります
  • Keep it moving. A child who has been listening quietly for a long time has usually stopped listening already. 止めない。長いあいだ静かに聞いている子は、たいていもう聞いていません
  • Speaking wakes them up. Listening puts them to sleep. Short bursts, everyone's voice out. 話すと目が覚め、聞くと眠くなります。短く区切って、全員の声を出させる
  • If the class goes flat, make it faster and shorter — not louder. Do not push a tired child harder; change the pace instead. だれてきたら、速く・短くする。声を大きくしない。 疲れている子をさらに押さない。変えるのはテンポです
  • Judge the lesson, not the child. If they cannot keep up at the end of a long day, that is information about the lesson. 子どもではなく、授業を評価する。一日の終わりについてこられないなら、 それは授業の側の情報です
The room, before the lesson starts授業を始める前に、教室を整える
These are school rules, not personal style. They are the same in every class, for every teacher — Japanese or foreign. A child must never learn that the rule depends on who is teaching. これは教室の決まりで、先生の好みではありません。どの先生でも同じです (日本人の先生でも、外国人の先生でも)。先生によってゆるくなる、ということがあってはいけません
  • On the desk: the textbook and the pencil case — pencil and eraser out and ready before the lesson starts. Nothing else on the desk. 机の上は、テキストと筆箱(鉛筆・消しゴム)だけ。授業が始まる前に出させる。 「授業の準備をしてから座る」と伝える
  • You hold all the iPads, for the whole lesson. This lesson does not use them at all. The only screen is the one you are projecting. If a child is already holding one, take it in before you begin. iPadは先生がまとめて持ったままにする。この授業では子どものiPadは使いません。 使う画面は、先生が投影している1つだけ。すでに持っている子からは、始める前に預かる
  • Water bottles go in the locker — never on the desk. No drinking during the lesson. They drink before the lesson or after it. 水筒は机の上に置かない。ロッカーに戻させる。レッスン中に水を飲むのはなし(前か後に飲む)
  • Toilet before the lesson. During the lesson, going to the toilet is not allowed. If a child truly cannot wait, let them go — and write it in the feedback at the bottom of this page. If the same child goes again and again, tell the manager — the manager contacts the parents. Do not deal with it alone, and do not let it continue. トイレは授業の前に済ませる。授業中のトイレは原則なし。 どうしても我慢できない子は行かせてよいが、下のフィードバック欄に書く。 同じ子が何度も続く場合はマネージャーに伝え、マネージャーから保護者へ連絡してもらう。 先生ひとりで抱えない。そのままにもしない
  • Nobody waits. Everyone is speaking together, or working in a pair. 待っている子をつくらない。全員が声をそろえて話しているか、ペアで取り組んでいる状態にする
  • Do not talk for more than 5 minutes at a time. A tired child cannot listen longer than that. The rest of the time belongs to them. 先生が続けて話すのは5分までを目安に。疲れている子はそれ以上は聞けません。 残りの時間は子どものものです
  • Do not explain grammar. Fixing the pronunciation is your job. 文法の説明はしない。発音を直すのが先生の仕事
  • You lead. You set the speed. Make it faster as soon as they can do it. 先生がリードし、速さを決める。できるようになったら、すぐ速くする
  • Never show the answer before they have tried. Ask → wait 3–5 seconds → elicit → hint → model only if you must → the child says it again. A correction ends with the child speaking, not with you. 子どもが試す前に答えを出さない。 聞く→3〜5秒待つ→引き出す→ヒント→どうしてもなら先生が言う→その子がもう一度言う。 直したあとは、必ず子どもの声で終わる
You teach alone. There is no Japanese teacher in the room, and you never need to read Japanese. All the Japanese the children need is printed on their screen.
WHAT’S NEW What changed this week▾
  • This week is HELP & DAILY TALK. No new grammar. The children use English they already have, and choose it when they need it.
  • The four HELP sentences are the heart of it: I don’t know. · I don’t understand. · Can you help me? · Could you say that again, please? Asking for help in English instead of switching to Japanese is the win.
  • Everything is on this page, from top to bottom, in lesson order. The situation pictures are inside the blocks. Only one button leaves this page: the slides in INPUT.
  • The same English comes back all lesson, but the activity keeps changing: master it together (12–22) → picture challenge (22–27) → a new story with no picture (27–35) → quick fire (35–40) → their own voice, checked by a partner, on the iPad (40–50).
  • No answer appears before the children speak. English only shows where you press SHOW MODEL, and TRANSFER has no picture at all — only the situation in words.
  • The children get their iPads at 40:00, not before. Until then the only screen in use is the one you are projecting. Collect them after PAIR MASTERY.
Press this when you have read it. This box folds away and stays closed for the rest of the lesson — even if you leave the page and come back. 読み終わったらここを押す。授業中はたたまれたままになります(教材から戻っても開きません)
